Thank you for allowing me the amazing honor of photographing your newborn in those first few precious days of life. It's truly a privilege to capture such a meaningful and fleeting time for you and your family. I look forward to getting to know both you and your sweet little one!
As you know, babies have their own timeline, and while we can't always predict the exact moment of their grand entrance, planning ahead is key. Since I only accept a limited number of newborn sessions each month, it's important to book as early as possible. When reserving your session, I simply need your due date (or c-section/induction date, if applicable). This helps us set a general timeframe, and we can adjust as needed once your baby arrives.
I can't wait to be part of this beautiful milestone in your life!
What You Should Know Before Booking:
I like to photograph newborns generally around 7-10 days old. This allows everyone to settle in a routine enough before hand that you are relaxed and ready to venture out and baby is still sleepy enough to be posed and moved around.
Clean the Baby: Gently wipe away any flaky skin and eye boogers with a soft washcloth. Babies have flaky skin so just do your best but its not all possible.
Keep Baby Awake: Before the shoot, try to keep the baby awake by giving them a bath, letting them kick around in just a diaper, tickling their toes, and interacting with them. Do not put any outfits on baby that needs to be pulled over their head. This wakes them up more and can make them mad before we even be
Feed Baby Well: Feed the baby thoroughly before packing them in the car seat to ensure they're content.
Don’t Worry About Sleep: It’s okay if the baby falls asleep on the way to the studio; it’s hard to keep them awake by that time, and it often makes for peaceful, sleepy photos.
These steps will help prepare both the baby and you for a smooth and successful photoshoot!
Newborn Family Portraits: Tips for Moms, Dads, and Siblings
Moms:
I provide a variety of gowns in the studio, but you are also welcome to bring your own outfits. When choosing, opt for neutral colors and simple designs that complement the style of the session. Be sure to keep your nails neat, as your hands may appear in some images. Don’t worry—I'll use flattering angles and lighting to ensure you and your family look your best.
Dads:
A simple t-shirt or button-up shirt paired with jeans works great. White or neutral tones are ideal for the look I create. Please avoid logos or neon colors. If you have a specific style (e.g., cowboy or always wear a hat), feel free to embrace it! We want you to feel comfortable and authentic in your photos. Also, bring a nice pair of dress shoes or cowboy boots to complete the look. If you’re not keen on removing your socks, bring an extra pair of shoes to wear instead.
Siblings:
Siblings are unpredictable in photos, especially toddlers. But don't worry! It's perfectly fine to bring small bribes—cereal, snacks, or candies (nothing that stains their teeth or mouth).
Tic Tacs are an excellent option because they’re small and won’t leave dirty faces or chewing.
